Bio
Gramsci developed his socialist journalism in Turin during the First World War. In 1919 he helped found L’Ordine Nuovo, which became a forum for the factory-council movement and the study of revolutionary institutions. He helped found the Communist Party of Italy in 1921 and became a leading figure in its reorganization during 1924–1926. The Fascist regime arrested him in November 1926.

Other Notes
The birth field follows the Enciclopedia Italiana’s 23 January; the linked 2002 biographical entry instead prints 22 January. Council-movement leadership alone does not establish election as a factory delegate. An invitation printed on 25 October 1919 announces him as speaker for a 30 October council-system discussion at Turin’s Associazione generale operaia; the invitation alone does not confirm that the meeting took place. Issue I.26 now reports that the announced discussion actually began on 6 November: Gramsci delivered a report intended for the first council pamphlet, still described prospectively. Issue I.28 names him in the proposed propaganda-school program for syndicalism, the Russian Revolution, unions and soviets, dictatorship, and religion. This announcement does not by itself establish that the lessons took place.
