Bio
Lébédeff left Russia after conflict with tsarist authorities and settled in Paris in 1909, developing a career in wood engraving and book illustration. His work circulated among French and Russian literary and anarchist circles; he also served on the board of the Turgenev Library. During the 1920s he contributed illustrations to anarchist periodicals and assisted émigré activists. L’Ordine Nuovo reproduced his portrait of Gorky from La Forge in September 1919.

Other Notes
The Russian Art Archive Network gives 25 November 1884; the House of Russian Abroad gives 24 November (12 November Old Style). The day remains unresolved. This is the engraver, not the actor Ivan Lebedeff. The Gorky portrait earns a brief visual-record credit, not a full written-article credit. Issue I.23 credits the woodcut portrait of Henri Barbusse to Ivan Lebedov; it is a second brief visual credit, not a written article.
