Bio
Montagnana trained as a mechanic and worked at Diatto-Frejus and Lancia before becoming a prominent Turin socialist youth activist. Imprisoned after the 1917 antiwar and food protests, he resumed political work in 1919 and participated in the factory movement of 1919–1920. His Issue 14 report advocates study commissions and discussion as preparation for socialist reconstruction. A founding communist in 1921, he became an editor of the daily L’Ordine Nuovo and subsequently faced fascist violence and imprisonment.

Other Notes
Later exile took him to France, the Soviet Union and Mexico; he returned to Italy in 1946. Work for the council movement does not establish a personal elected factory mandate. The article’s collective worker voice is retained without assigning it to a named factory. In I.26, pp.202–203, he challenges the council program’s division of functions while identifying himself as a worker and council supporter. The signature names no employer or elected position. I.30, pp.239–240, explicitly identifies the rejected motion to relocate Avanguardia as Montagnana’s; the associated editorial program was accepted. This does not establish personal authorship of the whole program or a new organizational office.
