Bio
Bukharin joined the Russian social-democratic movement in 1906 and developed his political and economic work during years of exile before returning to Russia in 1917. He opposed the Brest-Litovsk settlement in 1918 and became a prominent Bolshevik theorist and editor of Pravda. His publications during the revolutionary and civil-war period explained communist institutions, political economy and cultural transformation. During the 1920s he became a defender of the New Economic Policy and a senior party leader. His contribution to L’Ordine Nuovo presents secular schooling and access to knowledge as conditions of workers’ liberation.
