- Bio
- Zweig moved from an initial response of enthusiasm for the First World War to an avowed pacifism, spending time in neutral Switzerland. He settled in Salzburg in 1919 and cultivated exchanges with writers and intellectuals across national borders. His antiwar poem on Liebknecht appeared in L’Ordine Nuovo that September. International literary mediation and European understanding remained central to his work during the 1920s.
