- Bio
- Pankhurst linked women’s suffrage with working-class organization in London’s East End and broke with the WSPU leadership in 1914. Her movement opposed the war and organized practical support such as cheap meals, childcare and employment for women. By 1918 it had become the Workers’ Socialist Federation, and her newspaper advocated soviet organization. She corresponded with Lenin and traveled among European socialist movements in 1919, later contesting parliamentary tactics at the Communist International. Her London letter to L’Ordine Nuovo reports labor unrest and criticizes the distance between official leaders and workers.
